How to fix “Error 105 (net:: ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found.” on Chrome

Each space on the web has a name server defined by individual ip address, which makes it visible for the DNS’s to determine Domain Names. Error 105 or ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED problem comes when DNS (Domain Name System) is not able to reach by browser or internet.
You will find the error ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED when unable to open a site. There are different explanations for this error to pop-up. Most of the cases it comes due to website hosting server or we say the site is down. Sometimes it can be website structure error or missing files from the site. We have seen in some cases individual pc or laptop resolution also occur this error.

There are two possible situations for the issue. Solve it by reading the one that is appropriate for you.

The site you are trying to access is your own website, and it returns ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

Imagine you are a developer and set up a site.You need a domain name and it came from DNS.There are many DNS suppliers in the market like GoDaddy or big rock.After buying a domain name it takes 24 hours to becomes online. Sometimes registered DNS don’t response it gives ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. This situation needs to contact your domain selling company.


The second condition came with hosting server. You have to establish your hosting server for the domain from where your site will operate. Hosting server is an online space where your site content, images are placed. Whenever anyone opens your site, images and content upload from hosting server and download at the user end. There are few hosting server names are Cloudfare, Godaddy, Hostgator etc. Anyhow if your hosting is not responding definitely you will get ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED or Error 105.

In case only your site isn’t working, and other sites are you can see the report with the help of nslookup from Command Prompt.

  1. Open Run window box by pressing “Windows Logo Key + R“.
  2. Now type nslookup and press Enter.


If it doesn’t give a Valid IP Address or tells that the domain doesn’t exist must check with your hosting.

The site you are trying to open is a public site, that is accessible everywhere else but not just on your Device

The site you are accessing is a public site and won’t open on your computer.It is working fine anywhere else perfectly. This situation indicates the issue with ISP or computer DNS settings. First, confirm with correct DNS settings in the computer by given below steps then go with ISP step.

Fixing DNS Settings for ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED in Windows Computer-

Hold the Windows Key and Press R. It will open Run box.Now type ncpa.cpl and Click OK.Right Click your Network Adapter and go to the Properties.Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.Click a check to Use the following DNS Server Addresses and update the ip address with following addresses:

Click OK and Test.

Now you have successfully configured your DNS settings.Try to open that public website.If it is still not working contact your ISP.

Updating DNS Settings for ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED in MAC OS-

Open System Preferences by clicking Apple icon from the top left. Go to Network icon also select active adapter (Ethernet or Wireless).Now click on advanced.


Go to the DNS Tab and click (+) Symbol. Add the ip address with following addresses below:

You have successfully changed your DNS settings.Google by default gives public DNS for every site.Once google public DNS doesn’t work then change DNS settings otherwise no need to change DNS settings.

Disable Predict network Actions and Clear Google Chrome’s Host Cache 

Sometimes by clearing saved browser cache can solve the issue. We have already explained about clearing cache and cookies from the browser at How to clear cookies and cache from Google Chrome browser. Just read the article and clear your host cache. For disabling predict network follow steps-


  1. Open Google Chrome and go to Settings
  2. Click on Show Advanced Settings and open Privacy
  3. Here need to Find Predict network actions to improve page load performance or-or Use a prediction service to load pages more quickly, and disable it.
  4. Once done, type chrome://net-internals/#dns in the Address bar and hit the ENTER key.
  5. Click Clear-Host Cache
  6. Now restart your browser and try to access your website, it should work.

Contact ISP for checking your DNS Settings-

After trying all the above steps if still doesn’t open your site, contact your internet service provider with the problem. Few sites are not allowed to open in some country. You can not access the site which is not allowed to open in your country.If you will try to open it may cause the error message with ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED.

Just like is not allowed in China. For accessing these sites you need a special permission from government or ISP.Some people use VPN but it’s not secure and we do not advice to use it.
